Some words on the history… of the Château Brélidy first of all… a feudal mound…

In the year 1000, on a rocky headland dominating the valleys of the JAUDY and the THEOULAS, a stronghold was built, made of earth then of stone … a desirable
object, destroyed during the Breton wars of succession in the 14th century between the
Montfort and Blois families.

A pleasant residence…

In the 14 th century, the du Parc de Locmaria family, already in charge of the feudal domain, had a new residence built, inspired by the Breton Renaissance, with wide, high windows, fringed with sculptures.

This powerful family, consolidated by skilful alliances with their neighbours, had the right to dovecote, mill, high and low justice, and had a chapel in the wing of the castle.

Some of these lords distinguished themselves valiantly during the COMBAT DES TRENTES, others accompanied King Saint Louis on his crusade to Tunis… others were complete scoundrels, plundering, raping and ransacking.

Divided up at the French Revolution…

As in many other places in Brittany, the revolution caused the du Parc family to emigrate to Belgium, where their descendants settled down.
For the "Chouans" who remained to fight the "Bleus" the castle became a place of secret meetings, from where local resistance was organized.
The catalyst of this movement was Pierre TAUPIN. In reprisals for his activities, his wife was arrested and decapitated in the Place de Grève at TRÉGUIER, in front of her 12 children.
Pierre TAUPIN returned from England, where he had gone to seek reinforcements, and continued the fierce fight. He was killed in the cemetery of Tréglamus… the ghost of one of his comrades in arms still roams the residence…

Renovated with passion…

At the end of the reign of terror, the castle was sold as "national property" to farmers, a succession of whom used the building for agricultural purposes. Its condition gradually deteriorated, and threatened to fall into ruin, when Pierre YONCOURT, the current owner, acquired it in 1969 and undertook to restore it… Work lasted for 15 years, restoring it to its original condition, following the advice of the "Buildings of France" and the "Historic Buildings", with local materials. Opened to the public in 1985 with 4 bed and breakfast rooms, the castle became a 3 star hotel in 1988, and was run by Éliane YONCOURT until 2002.

The business was taken over by Mr and Mme LANGLET:

William LANGLET in the kitchen, and Carole LANGLET in reception and restaurant, now place their professionalism and their enthusiasm at your service.
